Nvu – A Free Tool You're Gonna Love
As I have mentioned
elsewhere, I built this website completely by myself in a few days,
with almost
no knowledge of html or any other programming language.
It may not be the most sensational
design on the internet, but
it definitely does the job, and I'm rather proud of it.
Would you like to know my secret?
Part of it is my server,
SiteBuildIt!
, which makes
creating pages and
adding headlines, text, and links so very easy.
But
honestly, I could
not have done this without secret #2 – a little program
called Nvu. Nvu
is free, downloadable software that
makes it possible for anyone who can use a word processor (Microsoft
Word, for
example) to create great-looking web pages.
Type your text into Nvu's window; add
bolding, italics, or
underlining; create bullet lists and tables; change the color, size,
and style
of your font, just as you would on a word processor.
Then
with a click of a button, Nvu converts your document into the html
format,
ready to cut and paste into your website builder.
And ta-da!
You've got a great looking page.
Nvu is what is known as a WYSIWYG
program. That
stands for "What You See Is What
You Get." It was
developed by a
group of volunteers who have made it available free to the public on
their
website at
http://www.Nvu.com.
It's available for Microsoft Windows, Linux
Desktop, and Macintosh users.
